  • A Basic Outline Of Affiliate Marketing – The Basics

Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing that takes place online where a business compensates a network of affiliated websites for every transaction that comes to them as a result of the affiliate marketing.

While a good number of e-tailers fail to see affiliate marketing as a viable marketing practice, affiliates are becoming more prevalent in the online business model.  The truth is, a great many merchants prefer this marketing method because it rewards marketers only when they generate revenue.  Also, affiliate marketing works alongside the other more high-profile online marketing methods such as Social Networking, e-mail marketing and PPC marketing.

Arguably, affiliate marketing is at its most effective when used strategically alongside these other popular online advertising methods: bookmarking, paid search engine marketing and e-mail marketing.  Those websites that employ Web 2.0 methods, including blogging, user communities and RSS feeds have integrated affiliate marketing methods with great success as well.

Affiliate marketing networks tend to vary in structure.  Most are one-tier and pay affiliates commission based on a hierarchy of partners and sub-partners.  Two-tier programs also exist but are in the great minority.  Unlike multi-level-marketing (MLM) or network marketing programs, there are also very few requirements to become an affiliate.

In terms of affiliate revenue, most merchant websites now use a cost per sale (CPS) revenue sharing process.  In a nutshell: if a customer visits an affiliate marketer’s website, clicks on a link sending them to the merchant’s site and then performs a transaction at the merchant’s site, the affiliate marketer gets a commission of the sale.  Cost per mile are previously used compensation methods that have become virtually extinct in affiliate marketing.

“Survival of the fittest” is the only real or effective regulating concept currently in place in the world of affiliate marketing.  Much like the early days of the internet or of civilization itself, affiliate marketers often operate as rogue and singular practitioners which could be the main reason why there still is no real code of conduct for affiliate marketers.

In conclusion, almost anyone can be an affiliate marketer at the comfor of their home. I personally know many successful marketers who are affiliates so there is no reason why you cannot do it.

Affiliate Marketers often use services associated with Article Marketing because Unique Articles can explode massive amounts of visitors to the affiliates review websites.
