One excellent way to make steady money online is through affiliate marketing. Of course, affiliate marketing is not without its challenges. Whether you’re a potential affiliate or a merchant, it’s important that you first understand some of the more common affiliate marketing mistakes and how to avoid them.

    Learn and avoid the following:

Affiliate Mistake #1 Assuming a customer will notice and click on your link.

Visitors should feel compelled to click.  Today’s potential customers are all keenly away that they are being marketed to.  This makes the job of any advertiser, not the least of which the affiliate marketer, an uphill climb.  The visitors are pop-ups, pop-unders, banner ads, sidebar ads and sponsored results.  Additionally, hyperlinks are everywhere – handheld devices like the iPhone have even rendered phone numbers as links.  The modern-day website has become a virtual mine-field, leading present-day customers reluctant to hover their mouse over a link, much less click on one unless they’re convinced it will lead them to a desirable outcome.  Before you do anything, you need to take your customer’s needs and wants into consideration.  Then use all of the tools at your disposal, from clever copywriting to graphics and enticements to lead to that all-important click.  If you want to see commissions, you’ll need to lay the groundwork for the merchant you are leading a customer to, which means you too will have to do a good portion of the hard sell.

Affiliate Marketing Mistake 2: Assuming a link to the merchant will lead to a sale.  Merchants and affiliate marketing websites both know if the product they are selling is unsellable. Additionally, if you are offered higher placement in the commission network on a lousy product and far lower placement on a popular or sellable product, do not let greed cloud your judgment.

Affiliate Mistake #3 Not keeping up with the Joneses.  What works in the marketing game is constantly changing.  What worked yesterday isn’t guaranteed to win your customer’s favor tomorrow.

Affiliate Marketing Mistake 4: Viewing affiliate marketing as a get-rich-quick scheme.  Affiliate marketing is a job and you’ll have to do your part to make it a successful business. If you are not prepared to do your part, it’s best not to take the plunge at all.

Affiliate Marketers often use services associated with Article Marketing because Unique Articles can drive massive amounts of visitors to the affiliates review websites.
